The difference between multichannel and multi-mono plug-ins in Pro Tools isn’t very significant if you only work in stereo. However, as soon as you start working with more than 2 channels, you find the number of plug-ins available as multichannel plug-ins starts to tail off rapidly.

PerfectSurround have released Penteo 16 Pro as their latest upmixing plug-in, which opens up the Penteo upmixing technology to the full range of immersive formats up to 16 channels. This includes 5.1, 7.1, Dolby Atmos up to 9.1.6, Auro 3D up to 13.1, DTSX and up to 3rd order Ambisonics. What is more it is now both an upmix and a downmix plug-in in one interface and enables you to go from different channel counts and formats in the one plug-in.

Nugen Audio has released the latest version of their loudness metering software VisLM. V2.8.3 brings 2 new features, one minor - a change to the Netflix stereo preset and one major - the introduction of Flags, which help to visualise Alerts and navigate through them. You probably recognize the THX logo, but you absolutely recognize THX’s sound. The high-end audio company, known for putting its stamp of approval on everything from movie theater screens to headphones, developed its “Deep Note” audio trademark in 1982. It’s a computer-generated glissando, which smears together several octaves of pitches until, at the last moment, they find a harmony that kicks you in the gut. The Deep Note has become an unmistakable part of the movie-going experience—when it plays before the trailers in a theater, you just know that some crazy, almost world-ending stuff is about to go down.
