It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

This was first suggested to me in an email, but I forgot to write down the name of the person submitting this. One of the limitations of Final Cut Pro X is that it doesn’t support batch exporting. That is, you can’t select a bunch of projects and export them all at once.

Last November, the day they went on sale, I ordered a 27″ iMac to replace my main editing system. (Click here to read about the system I ordered.) It arrived the end of December and, as these things tend to work out, as soon as I unpacked it, I needed to give it to our talented production assistant to do some web database work for the last two weeks.

I learned a long time ago that training is not something people buy as a Christmas gift; well, not very often. Still, training is the best thing you can give yourself to get ready for new challenges in the new year. So, from now till the end of the year, save 25% on everything in our store...

One of the problems with writing a weekly newsletter is that, while it is easy to write detailed articles of a single subject, it is hard to write about interesting things that don’t require a lot of space. But every day, I get announcements from developers and comments from readers that are really cool, but the newsletter doesn’t have an easy way for me to share them.

Last week, we looked at multicam editing in Final Cut Pro X. This week, we look at multicam editing in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. Adobe has spent a lot of time enhancing multicam editing in Premiere. Gone are the limitations on the number or format of the clips you can edit. Now, you are limited [...]
