PVC at NAB 2014 - Talking CION workflow with AJA

April 15, 2014, 16:04 PM

While all the biggest news and coverage out of AJA came around their surprise CION camera I took my turn interviewing Bryce Button of AJA about a few things beyond the CION. I wanted to chat about another interesting surprise from AJA called the LUT-box. This unassuming $695 interface sits just outside of your viewing monitor in the signal chain and is designed to transform that signal with a 3D LUT.

With the advent of Thunderbolt a new option arrived for editors in the form of an easy to use video capture and playback interface for your editing computer that doesn’t have to sit inside a tower. Adding Thunderbolt to iMacs and laptops means portability and affordability is an option for editors like never before. Both the AJA Io XT and the Blackmagic Design UltraStudio 3D are two good options...

Let's start off 2013 with a review of a really cool product…the AJA T-TAP. Until recently when you wanted to send a signal to an external monitor from your edit system, you needed to get an “I/O Device.” I/O meaning “In and Out,” and device being either a card that you installed internally on a tower...

What a cool little device. If you're anything like me, you always have a laptop on you and with the T-Tap and a Thunderbolt cable you now can easily output 1080 video whenever and wherever you need to. I often need to test video systems off the set and this is the perfect solution to get video through your hardware when you need it and don't have a camera.

Review: KiPro vs. HyperDeck Shuttle 2

November 16, 2012, 07:11 AM

I recently recorded a panel discussion for a local election. Therefore I had to record a 2 hour sequence. For me the recorder was an important piece of this production, so I kept it redundant. I bought one HyperDeck Shuttle 2 from Blackmagic along with a SSD drive. This little box can record uncompressed Quicktime as well as DNxHD. In the meantime it also supports Apple ProRes HQ (at the time of the production it didn't).
