H.265/High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is the successor codec to H.264, which, like H.264, is jointly developed by the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group and ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG). The primary goal of the new codec is 50 percent better compression efficiency than H.264 and support for resolutions up to 8192x4320.

RGB Spectrum's DSx 264 codec now offers the ability to record and stream imagery at up to 1920 x 1200 resolution. The DSx 264 codec encodes and streams graphics and HD video using H.264 high profile compression, which delivers superior image quality compared to the main and baseline profiles used in other codecs, according to the company.

In part one, I described how tapeless cameras offer a wide choice of codecs, with some also having the ability to output raw and/or uncompressed files. The next step in the workflow is to choose an edit codec and then a delivery codec. The choice of edit codec should be influenced by the delivery codec in order to maximize the video quality.

There's much more to visual communication than simply slapping a series of shots together. With video, you need to think about the way you connect your shots.
