Red Digital Cinema just announced the Hydrogen One: a $1,600 Holographic Android Phone. We’ve heard plenty from both fanboys and skeptics, while bloggers ruminate on the technical specs. Katie & Pliny have both been outspoken on RED’s influence on the industry, so they decided to put their combined nickel into the discussion.#red#tech#hydrogen

Designed around the new RED IPP2 pipeline, it includes 103 3D LUTs for use in post and in camera (cameras with IPP2 support). You can use these LUTs in REDCINE-X regardless of color science used but they are intended to be applied to footage using the REDWideGamutRGB color and LOG3G10 gamma.#color grading#red#color correction#luts#ipp2#phil holland

It has come as a massive surprise to users of red cameras as it has always been a much requested feature but the official line has always been that GPU cards were just not very good at handling the debayering and wavelet technology that is involved in working with red footage. There are a few ways of importing RED media into the Avid depending on your workflow and if the DIT is providing transcoded media. RED source files contain a lot of metadata which is useful during certain phases of post production. Because AAF and MXF media don’t retain this information once transcoded, an Avid Log...#media#transcoding#avid#media composer#mc6#red#nle#r3d#ale

The 4K buzz seems to be steam-rolling the industry just like stereo3D before it. It's too early to tell whether it will be an immediate issue for editors or not, since 4K delivery requirements are few and far between. Nevertheless, camera and TV-set manufacturers are building important parts of the pipeline. RED Digital Cinema is...#red#4k#r3d#online#offline
