To 4K or Not to 4K - A PVC Roundtable Discussion

Various members of the ProVideo Coalition weigh in with their opinions around 4K. Do professionals need to shoot, edit and deliver at 4K because of the perceived benefits? Do consumers want to watch something at 4K because they're really able (or think they're able) to tell the difference between 4K and HD? Or should moving to 4K (and eventually 8K) just be accepted as inevitable?

Is the Hard Drive Really Dead?

Yet another online backup company has launched this week, this one offering what they call “infinite cloud storage”. Unlimited storage across multiple devices and operating systems for $10 month sounds pretty good and I might even give their service a try. But what struck me as odd is the company’s proclamation that with the launch of their service “the hard drive is now dead”.

SSD Market Revenue Set to more than Doubles

The market for solid-state drives has been growing quick for years, and that trend doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon! An analyst over at IHS iSuppli expects global shipment of solid state drives (SSDs) to more than double in 2013. The driving force behind this growth, according him, is “a new generation of lower-cost and more appealing ultrabooks” that will be launching later this year.

Samsung 840 Pro Series 512GB SSD Review

We missed getting product for the initial release of the Samsung 840 Pro SSD, although we did get in on the non-pro version back in November. When we mentioned it to Samsung during our meeting at CES, they handed over a 512GB version to throw on our test bench upon our return.

The church began using its new system in mid-October.
