For a while now I've heard from DoPs and cinematographers in India shooting movies on digital cameras - Alexa, Red, Sony Canon etc - requesting the services of a DIT "just like in Hollywood". Which basically means what they read about on the net, in forums, and in American Cinematographer.

The media management and quality control handled by the digital imaging technician and post house is nearly universally vital in modern filmmaking, where each digital camera brings its own varying formats, workflows, and quirks. This need for DITs and post houses, however, may evaporate just as quickly as it has arisen — at least according to the predictions of Michael Cioni.

RED Digital Workflow of "Hitchcock"

Shooting on RED Epics at Red Studios in LA, all the DIT work and dailies of the film "Hitchcock" were handled by one operator working on a cart that housed two 12 core Tower Macs fitted with three Red Rocket cards and 70 terabytes of hard drive space.
