By 2014 After Effects was roughly 21 years old. The list of improvements and new features added since the release of version 1 is impressive, and in many cases it’s impossible to imagine working without some of the tools we now take for granted. It’s hard to believe that the first release of After Effects only allowed one effect and one mask to be applied to each layer, and we only got text layers with version 6.

With the film now out on DVD, Blu-ray etc. for you to watch at home in all its glory, you might be on the lookout for some more behind the scenes goodness to see how Sam Mendes and co. brought this magnificent WWI movie 1917 to the screen. There is some stuff on the DVD and Blu-ray but there has been so much pop up online from the various VFX production companies that helped bring some of the magnificent set-pieces to the screen.
